2018 Youth Selection Policies
Archery GB Performance has published youth selection policies for the 2018 European Youth Cup, European Youth Championships and Youth Olympic Games.
Athletes seeking to represent Great Britain will be required to successfully progress through three stages of selection designed to test their capability to succeed on the international stage.
Director of Sport, David Tillotson said “These stages are designed to build on and exceed medal success in 2017 by identifying young archers who are internationally competitive in both their shooting ability and their competition management, as well as being great team players on and off the shooting line. This is vital to develop athletes who have what it takes to win at the 2019 World Championships where the crucial Tokyo Olympic qualification will be contested.”
Following the publication of an advisory notice in August, junior and cadet athletes have been striving to achieve the official selection scores in order to gain an invitation to take part in the 2018 selection process. These scores do not constitute a minimum level for consideration for nomination or selection, only a minimum standard set for athletes to engage in the process. The published scores can be found on page six of the recurve and compound selection policies.
From today, recurve athletes will be able to submit up to 10 scores to a score tracker. Compound athletes will be asked to submit one 50m score and two head to head scores. Scores achieved in WRS competitions from 1 May 2017 can be submitted and Archery GB recommend that athletes submit their top scores, even if these are below the minimum score threshold. AGB are keen to track all athletes’ development and the selection policy allows for athletes to be invited to join the process at a later date if they can demonstrate internationally competitive score levels.
Recurve athletes can access their score tracker here https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/2018youthrecurve.
Compound athletes should email firstname.lastname@example.org for access to their score tracker.
Athletes who have achieved the minimum scores will be invited to participate in Stage 2. During Stage 2, performance across a series of selection events will determine which athletes will be nominated to represent Great Britain in 2018.
Once athletes have been selected and ratified, they will be expected to maintain or improve standards during Stage 3 and demonstrate the winning behaviours of a champion.

Compound will be published shortly.
