Start Archery Week – 14-22 May 2022

After years of introducing thousands of new people of all ages and backgrounds to archery at successful events, the Big Weekend turns 10 years old in 2022, so what better time to throw a grand birthday party?!

People of all ages and abilities will be able to have a go at archery at various events, delivered by an amazing team of clubs, organisations, coaches, and experienced volunteers, all sharing their passion for our sport.  It’s been a tough couple of years, but this summer is an opportunity to invite everyone. We know there are no limits as to who can be involved – it’s for everybody regardless of background, ability or motivation.  Some clubs will hold a social aimed mainly at getting all members active again, others will be invitation only, for example in a school or with a community group.

Events can take place in all sorts of places and formats during the week.  Archery has numerous health and wellbeing benefits and is well documented as a confidence-boosting sport, so in 2022 the invite is for every club and archery provider to get involved, and celebrate 10 years of events with a giant 10th year anniversary party!

Top 5 benefits of taking part in Start Archery Week:

  1. Be a part of something bigger! Join this national celebration of archery with a big birthday party-themed year, and help people who hear about Start Archery Week see how active the sport is in their area.
  2. A great opportunity after a couple of Covid-impacted summers to pull together everyone in your club/organisation with a fun, social archery celebration.
  3. Increased general awareness in your community, possibly leading to new links and partnerships, or future opportunities.
  4. Potential new members for your club, and therefore new volunteers too, or opportunities to point to other archery providers who are looking for new members.
  5. Support from Archery GB and a toolkit of resources to help you prepare and deliver your event.

Promotional assets

Please refer to the Documents section at the bottom of this page where you will find an editable press release for you to send to local media to publicise your event. Just replace the red text with your name, club name and your role before sending to your local newspaper, radio station or what’s on guide.

You can also find posters which can be edited in Adobe or Word and then printed. The PDF versions can be printed as they are with space for you to write your event details on by hand if you prefer.

There are also two social media images. The editable one can be changed in PowerPoint to add details of your event. Just save it as a JPEG once you have made your changes. The non-editable one can be used straight away in social media posts or adverts.
