David Phillips claimed individual gold with a masterly performance at the first stage of the Para-Archery European Cup - and there was silver for Victoria Rumary and bronze for Nathan Macqueen.
Recurver David blazed past Italy's Roberto Airoldi 7-3, second seed Anton Ziapaev 6-2 and American Kevin Mather 6-4 to book a title showdown with Guillaume Toucoullet. It was an intense match with the Frenchman taking an early lead. David took the second set and Toucoullet fought back in the third - but from that point the Briton took control to land the title 6-4.
Victoria saw off Tereza Brandlova - who had earlier ended Victoria Kingstone's hopes - 114-109 to reach the W1 gold medal match. It was top seed against second as she faced Asia Pellizzari - but the Italian took the early advantage and managed to edge ahead to claim the gold with a 131-126 win.
Compounder Nathan just missed out at a shot at gold - and was determined not to go home empty-handed. He had seen off challenges from France's Philippe Horner and Russians Bair Shigaev and Viktor Glazkov before being beaten 143-142 by Italy's Alberto Simonelli. That left Nathan facing Polish top seed Marcel Pavlik for what turned into a classic match. Nathan took an early lead, then Pavlik pulled back and it was neck-and-neck until the last end when the Pole shot 27 and the Brit replied with 29 to take the bronze.
Jess Stretton was also shooting for compound bronze. She had beaten Russia's Anastasia Dzhioeva and Italian Eleonora Sarti but lost to another Russian, Stepanida Artakhinova, by a single point. Her opponent was Turkey's Sevgi Yorulmaz - who had denied Jodie Grinham a semi-final spot - and got off to a flying start. Jess fought hard and clawed back points but it was not enough and the Turk won, 137-135.
Yesterday, Great Britain claimed three silver team medals.
The first went to compounders Jess Stretton, Jodie Grinham and Phoebe Pine, who topped the rankings and went straight into the gold medal match. They faced Russia who took first blood. Britain took the second end but Russia edged ahead to take the title.
Russia was becoming a common theme as John Cavanagh and Victoria Rumary took on Elena Krutova and Aleksei Leonov in the W1 mixed team title match. And the outcome was the same as Russia took gold with a 133-128 win.
The compound mixed team of Jess Stretton and Nathan Macqueen qualified in top spot and saw saw off France 154-147 and Slovakia 151-143 to book a gold medal showdown withÂ…Russia. Stepanida Artakhinova and Bair Shigaev took first blood and edged ahead - despite a determined fightback in the third end - to take the title 154-151.
