Coaching Opportunity - Archery GB Competition Coach

Archery GB are seeking expressions of interest for Archery Competition coaching services for up to 50 days a year, to include around a day a week (likely Friday or Saturday), plus some overseas work at International events and training camps to August 2019 with possible further extension to 2020.

Role:                             Competition Coach (up to 50 days per year).

Contract Type:         Consultancy - Part Time - Fixed term

Daily Rate:                 Consultancy rate to be agreed

Location:                     The primary work base is Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

 

Archery GB is the governing body for the sport of archery in Great Britain and Northern Island and serves eight regional societies.

Performance (Olympic, Paralympic, Pathway and AGB funded disciplines) has the specific purpose of winning medals at major events on a sustainable basis along with developing a performance pathway for athletes, coaches and clubs so that there is the opportunity to progress and be competitive in the international arena.  Performance is thereby responsible for delivering the plan and outcomes of the World Class Performance Programme that culminates in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Performance is made of a team of professionals and volunteers who provide a comprehensive support service to funded and other archers covering international events, training camps (both at home and abroad), sport science support and development and talent identification programmes.

Archery GB are seeking expressions of interest for Archery Competition coaching services for up to 50 days a year, to include around a day a week (likely Friday or Saturday), plus some overseas work at International events and training camps to August 2019 with possible further extension to 2020.

Key focus of Competition Coach:

 To support an Olympic coaching programme and preparation environment for a designated group of athletes seeking to achieve qualification for, and performance at, the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To coach and support the preparation and international competition programmes of agreed National Recurve archers.
  • To develop positive interpersonal relationships with National Recurve programme athletes.
  • To assist in the design and delivery of robust procedures and processes to ensure that there is a fair, transparent and optimal selection and deselection of athletes for the high-performance programme and international competitions.
  • As agreed with the AGB National Coach, support the work and development of any personal coaches, and establish mutually supportive relationships.
  • To contribute to the evolution, development and promotion of a ‘high performance, sporting excellence' culture and seamless performance pathway within archery.
  • To submit relevant information on archers to the AGB senior performance personnel as required
  • To comply with mandatory best practice regarding child protection, health, safety, antidoping, equal opportunities and welfare in all matters and activities.
  • To maintain excellent communication with the Director of Sport and other key relations, about the National Recurve programme and its progress against agreed goals.

We are looking for expressions of interest from individuals/organisations with:

  •  A good knowledge of world class standards and practices in the sport of Archery.
  • Extensive and demonstrable knowledge of the coaching methodology required across a variety of archers to address technical, physical and cognitive needs.
  • Extensive and demonstrable knowledge of the coaching process for technical/skill-based sports.
  • Significant and successful experience of supporting and delivering national and international training and competition programmes and leading archers and national teams to success at international events
  • National level experience of the integration of support science, medicine to bring about measurable performance achievements.
  • Successful experience in a support role in a national high-performance environment.
