The Archery GB Teacher Award is an entry-level training course for those with Qualified Teacher Status, which prepares learners to deliver fun and safe introductory sessions for pupils in a school setting.
About the course
The Archery GB Teacher Award is the qualification designed for teachers delivering archery in the school setting. The course is designed for learners with little or no prior experience of archery. Learners must have qualified teacher status (QTS) or working towards this, to be eligible for the course. The course is two days long and includes a continuous assessment and workbook. The successful learner will gain an Archery GB Teacher certificate of attendance.
These are some of the skills you will learn on the course:
- How to set up a range
- How to select appropriate equipment
- How to shoot arrows and prepare sessions
- Understand basic technique
- How to organise games and competitions
- Explore links to the curriculum
Impact on your school objectives:
- Ideal sport to ‘inspire all pupils to succeed and excel’
- Add variety and breadth to your sporting offer
- Include within extra-curricular and enrichment programmes
- Archery is part of the School Games, satellite club and club-links programmes
What are the differences between the Archery GB Instructor Award and Teacher Award?
The Teacher Award is open only to those with QTS and those working towards it, who will be delivering archery within the school setting. The Teacher Award covers links to the curriculum, planning of successive sessions and basic equipment repair, which the Instructor Award does not.
The Teacher Award does not include generic delivery skills about how to teach a group, which the Instructor Award does include.
The assessment processes are different, as the Teacher Award is a continuous assessment throughout the course via a workbook and practical sessions. The Instructor Award is assessed with a multi-choice test and practical assessment.
The Teacher Award is a National Governing Body awarded qualification, which on successful completion, the learner receives a certificate. There is no further renewal process. The Instructor Award provides the successful candidate with a licence which is renewable every three years
How much will it cost?
Course costs range from £150-190 per person, depending on location.
