Twenty-one universities - including one debutant - went head to head in the British Universities Team Championships at Derby.
De Montfort made its debut but the final laurels and Werner Beiter Trophy went to defending champions Warwick A with a 14-12 win over Oxford.
The qualification round was a Bray I, and the best individual performances were by Guy Matzkin (Edinburgh) and Tom Hall (Warwick A) who both hit 285 with 17 golds, Charlotte Birch (Oxford A) and top novice Antonio Rubino (Cambridge B).
In the knockout matches teams of three shot four ends of two arrows each at Beiter Hit-Miss 60mm targets.
There were thrills and spills - plus some very close calls - as the teams were whittled down and the bronze medal match, in particular, produced some nail-biting moments. The first end had to be shot in two halves because of problems with the timing system - and it gave Edinburgh the chance to overcome Birmingham A's early lead. But then Birmingham turned on the style and forged ahead to a 16-14 victory.
