Congratulations to new W1 world record holder Jess Stretton who has been named as SportsAid's athlete of the month!
Jess beat world champion Jo Frith's record by a single point after scoring a total of 649 during qualification at the second Fazaa International Archery Competition in Dubai - and then went on to take silver in the W1 final.
It was quite a learning curve for the 15-year-old. She faced London 2012 Paralympic silver medallist David Drahoninsky in the final - and earned his respect. He said: "It was a very tough final. Jessica is a great archer because she shot a world record. I knew she would be very good."
It also won her the accolade of being named SportsAid's latest athlete of the month. She said: "I feel really honoured. It is a really big thing to me and I am really thankful to all those that have helped me get here. SportsAid helped me buy my equipment. It helped start my career and put me on the right path."
