Now Archery GB and Butlins are piloting the Shooting for Gold Award. It will be launched on 20 February at Butlins' Bognor Regis resort. Olympic Coach Lloyd Brown will be there along with rising stars Becky Martin and Bryony Pitman to show holidaymakers and the media why archery is such a fantastic family-friendly sport.
The Shooting for Gold Award is a great way to introduce people to archery. It will be available at Butlins' three resorts - Minehead, Bognor Regis and Skegness - and will be open to everyone aged over eight, so the whole family can take part. All shooting will be done under the watchful eye of Archery GB-approved instructors and everyone will be able to aim for blue, red or gold badges, based on what they learn about the sport and their scores. All the family can take part and they will each receive certificates for their achievements. The awards are just for fun - but they could be the start of something bigger.
The award is part of the 2012 legacy aimed at inspiring a generation and providing a pathway into archery. Everyone who takes part will be given details about how to get involved and how to find his or her nearest club.
Archery GB Chairman David Harrison said: "This is a great opportunity to get all the family involved in our fantastic sport and perhaps, inspire the Olympians and Paralympians of the future. That's what's so great about archery. It gives everyone the chance to fulfil their potential, whether that's being the best in the world or just having a great time shooting arrows with your friends and family. It's about fun. It's about family and those are values we share with Butlins."
Mike Godolphin, Entertainments Director at Butlins said "It's really important for us to be constantly evolving and developing the experience for our guests, especially if it is something that families can try together for the first time. Archery GB will be working closely with our own sports coaches to ensure that guests receive only the most professional and expert coaching possible."
