But it was no easy task. She had to beat some tough opponents including Nichola Simpson who took her to 6-4 before she progressed to the last 16. It was a similar story against Spain's Elena Garcia Munoz.
Their scores matched all the way until Naomi managed to scrape through by a single point to reach the quarter finals - and that was decided by a single arrow shoot-off against Lithuania's Jelenna Babinina.
Tens all the way against France's Sandrine Vandionant-Frangilli in the semis gave her a clear route through to the final confrontation with Tonioli and victory with the final decisive arrow.
Defending champion Danielle Brown made it to the last 32 but went out 6-2 to Pascale Lebecque of France. Rikki Bingham went one step further, making it to the last 16 before being beaten 7-3 by Inge Van Caspel of the Netherlands.
Naomi Folkard carried Britain's hopes in the senior women's recurve contest. She knocked out Italian Sara Violi 6-0 to breeze through to the last 16 but then came up against more determined opposition, Italy's Claudia Mandia and went out 7-3.
Adam Ravenscroft made it to the last 16 in the senior compound competition but then came up against the favourite - and eventual gold medal winner - Reo Wilde. He lost 7-3. Liam Groimwood went out one stage earlier, losing to Frenchman Sebastien Peineau 6-4.
Pip Taylor put up a cracking fight in the cadet women's recurve to make it to the last 16. She went out 7-1 to the eventual bronze medal winner, Belgium's Karianne van Houtven.
She said: "It was quite surreal. I really enjoyed it and just shot my best. It was never going to be easy and I made it harder by scoring quite a low qualification. I just am glad I managed to qualify in 12th and finish 10th. My aim was to be in the top 10 archers in the world. It is a really amazing feeling."
Stage three of the Indoor Archery World Cup and the final will be held in Las Vegas from 8-10 February.
