Archery GB is committed in ensuring that children, young people and vulnerable adults enjoy archery in a safe environment in which they are protected from any form of poor practice or abuse.
The Archery GB Policy for Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults works to ensure that good practice is followed and to raise awareness for everyone involved in archery. Further child protection documents may be found by clicking on the relevant subject headings on the left hand side.
Information on Child Protection courses is available from Sports Coach UK and further information on the Vetting and Barring Scheme is available here - Information.
Archery GB has been taking guidance, following the Government's announcement that it has suspended the introduction of the registration to the ISA under the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS), pending the outcome of a comprehensive review.
Information has been received from the Independent Safeguarding Authority advising the following:
Although registration with the VBS (due to begin from July 2010) will not now go ahead, the ISA will continue to make barring decisions on individuals and to maintain the two barring lists.
The new safeguarding regulations introduced in October 2009 continue to apply. This is the current advice on the Independent Safeguarding Authority website:
A person who is barred from working with children or vulnerable adults will be breaking the law if they work or volunteer, or try to work or volunteer with those groups.
An organisation which knowingly employs someone who is barred to work with those groups will also be breaking the law.
If your organisation works with children or vulnerable adults and you dismiss a member of staff or a volunteer because they have harmed a child or vulnerable adult, or you would have done so if they had not left, you must tell the Independent Safeguarding Authority.
In the meantime organisations are, therefore, recommended to continue to implement their existing safe recruitment processes, which should include CRB checks for relevant individuals and posts.

As a result of the ISA registration being suspended, the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) had to consider the impact on its application process. The CRB has recently distributed a new application form in readiness for the planned launch of the ISA registration phase in July 2010, and although this phase of the VBS has been suspended, the CRB will still launch the new application form on the 26 July 2010 as originally planned. Revised guidelines will be sent out with this form to assist Archery GB Members to complete the new form.

Don't let anyone spoil the fun
Sport is fun - it gives you the opportunity to make new friends, try out new activities and amaze yourself with what you can do!
But for a few children the fun is spoilt by adults who do or say things during sporting activities that hurt or frighten them. What these children are experiencing may be abuse. And they may feel they have no one to talk to about it. Or that no one will listen to them or believe what they say.
Is something worrying you?
If you are a young person and are concerned about how someone is behaving towards you, and you feel you can't speak with your parents/guardian/teacher, it is important to talk to someone straight away. A useful source of reference has been listed below:
