Chairman - Coaching

Tim Swane

Tim Swane

I was born in Bishops Stortford in 1958 but my family soon moved and I grew up in East Anglia. After a completely uneventful school career, I studied Psychology at the University of Wales, Bangor and on graduation joined the NatWest Bank where I still am 31 years later. I live in Kendal, shoot with Kendal Bowmen and currently work as a Business Development Manager in the South Lakes. I still cannot believe my luck that I get paid to spend my days driving around one of the most beautiful parts of the world. My other hobbies are sailing, kayaking and fell walking.

I normally shoot a recurve but do possess both a longbow and a compound. I took up coaching in 2002 and since then have worked my way up to be a Senior Coach. My ability as an archer seems inversely proportional to my ability as a coach.

Chairman - Disabled

Chris Christopherson

Chris Christopherson

Chris has been an archer since 1985 and spent the early part of his archery activity shooting field until he was told he could be part of the Paralympic group. He was for sometime a member of the GB Disabled Squad and has competed at a number of international events. He gave up archery for three years to return to his first love of motorcycle racing.

After two rather exciting incidents at Brands Hatch in 2003 he decided that archery is actually a lot less painful and has now returned to the fold.

Andrew Rees

I started shooting in 1995 and, after a few years shooting Olympic recurve, I decided to try field archery shooting barebow: this has remained my passion. Normally I shoot field but, on occasion, I shoot target and I am currently a Master Bowman in both disciplines. I have had the honour of representing GB & NI in European and World Field Championships.

I represented GWAS on the National Council and I am still closely involved with the running of my County and Regional Societies. I am very proud to be the current President of the Somerset County Archery Association.

Chairman - Judges

Andy Pointon

Andy Pointon

In 1985 as a Police Officer in Nottinghamshire, I made some enquiries into a case at the former Marksman Archery Shop on Welbeck Estate, near Worksop, Notts. The sport fascinated me enough to go on a Beginners Course and then become a member of Welbeck Archers. I shot reasonably well for some years, making the County Team, but in 1988, I decided to become a Judge. I progressed through the ranks finally obtaining my National Judge Grade which I am now in 1998. Not wanting to just be a Judge, I offered my services to the National Judge Committee for election in 2002 and was elected. In 2003, I became Registrar and was elected Chairman in 2006, I have just been re-elected and will stand again until 2013.

Over the years, I have also served my County and Region in various positions, Nottinghamshire County Secretary for 3 years, East Midland Archery Society Vice Chairman and later Chairman from 1998 to 2001. My love for the sport and my position has allowed me to officiate at World Cup events i.e. Dover 2007, Junior World Championships in 2004 and many National Events. I currently control the National Judge Committee and have an excellent team with me, 2 National and 2 International Judges. We try to oversee Judging within the UK in training, equipment, event participation and discipline which I am glad to say is very rare.

I still shoot my longbow and recurve bow occasionally, but not as much as I would like. I still remain a member of Welbeck Archers.

Chairman - Junior

John Wilson

John Wilson

I was born in 1942 during the war and have memories of the of the bombs being dropped and being pushed under the bed for safety, also seeing in the sky as I lay in my pram in the garden the hundreds of planes gathering in the sky during the early evening forming up to go to Germany.

I lived in Hadleigh Essex and grew in the Shadow of Hadleigh Castle used by King John as a hunting lodge, which is the site of the Mountain bike competition at the 2012 Olympics. I played in the local woods where deer, and roe buck roamed freely and my Archery club Rayleigh archery was originally founded by King John in 1219, to protect the animals from the local inhabitants from his livestock, and also fill his larder with fresh meat. Chairman - National Tournaments

Geoff Malyon

I joined the society in 1993 and two months later found myself as club treasurer and later chairman. The pace really started to pick up as I became club rep to the county, then county rep to the region, then regional chairman, as well as regional rep to EAF. I have also managed MB for a few years, and become a National Judge recently. Quite a while ago our daughter, Christina, started to show some ability, and we were off to the big events. So we offered to help at the Junior Outdoor when Christina decided she could "do it by herself", and next thing you know we are a permanent fixture, and then I became an official fixture to national tournaments in 2007, and here I am now as Chairman. National Tournaments have already started changing, there is more to come......
