About the qualification

This qualification provides a comprehensive foundation to leading archery. It is aimed at people who want to introduce a programme for beginners and maintain their own equipment and range.

If you are new to archery or new to leading an archery programme, working in sport centres, outdoor education centres and adventure and holiday parks, this course will give you the information and skills you require.

Duration of the course

  • 4 days

Course pre-requisites

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 17 on the first day of the course

How to apply

These courses are delivered by external training providers on behalf of Archery GB.

Course structure

On the course you will complete four units and learn about:

Safety, range layout, different forms of archery

  • All safety observances and rules
  • Alternative range layouts with regard to public and participant safety
  • Suitable rounds for beginners and juniors
  • Various forms of archery
  • Various incentive schemes

Shooting

  • Practical skills to hit the target at up to 20 yards using barebow and freestyle styles of shooting

Teaching and improving

  • Demonstrate basic barebow
  • Demonstrate basic freestyle
  • Improve performance in both styles of shooting

Equipment care

  • Advise on suitable equipment for activity groups and individuals
  • Recommend sources of supply and be aware of costs
  • Maintain equipment in good working order
  • Understand the importance of equipment maintenance ref. safety and accident prevention

Renewal

To keep your Archery Leader qualification active you are required to renew it every 3 years following the date you first gained the qualification.

To make this easy for you, Archery GB will send you a reminder letter and renewal application form 6-8 weeks in advance of your renewal date.

You need to complete the form making sure that your details are up to date and a general record of the archery sessions you have led since you qualified or last renewed. Remember to include the dates, venues, duration and group size of each session. Enclose a copy of your work log as a separate document or e-mail your work log to us. (Please do not post the original as we do not have the resources to store or return it).

Renewal fee

A fee is required to renew your qualification. This should be securely attached to the renewal application form. Payment can only be accepted by cheque, postal order or by debit/credit card over the phone. Purchase order or invoices are not accepted methods of payment.

  • £30 for standard renewal
  • £35 for standard renewal plus a copy of the latest version of the Leader Manual.

To receive a receipt please ensures that you tick the appropriate box on the renewal application form.

Send your completed application to Archery GB ensuring that you have paid the correct postage as we do not accept underpaid items.

Renewal certificate

Once Archery GB receives your renewal application form and a copy of your work log, your work log is promptly sent to the Leader Scheme Manager.

Please allow 28 days for your application to be processed. If there is any reason why we cannot process it in this time we will contact you by letter or e-mail, together with details of any further action you may need to take.

If you have heard nothing from us after 28 days please contact the Coaching Officer on the number provided on the renewal application form.

If you change address

Please inform Archery GB if you change address so that we can keep in contact with you to send you your renewal reminder.
