Competition Review Update

As many of you are aware, we are in the process of an in-depth consultation with members to review our competition landscape.

So far, we have successfully completed two of eight workshops and engaged with over 40 archers. The key themes have included but are not limited to, the provision of competitions where families can compete together, entry level competitions for beginners and geographical challenges regarding suitable venues for Tier 1 events.

We are also in the process of piloting a new ranking system during 2018. The rankings are provided to show who are the UK's top archers, whilst allowing all a chance to measure performance against the rest of the UK. Whilst the number of Tier 1 events is low; Tier 2 events will enable archers to gain enough points to achieve a top 20 position or higher.

Where geographical challenges exist, we would like to encourage clubs and County Associations to consider putting on Tier 1 events to help alleviate the gaps in the competition landscape. We are happy to support those Tournament Organisers (TOs), clubs and County Associations that wish to host these events.

If TOs or club/county officials require further advice or guidance, then the competition team are available to help. Jon Nott is the Competition & Events Manager, and oversees the national competition delivery. Contact Jon via email: jon.nott@archerygb.org.

Karen Hodgkiss is the Competition Support Officer, and looks after the administrative side of tournaments and competition. Karen is available to assist Tournament Organisers in applying for record status events, update the tournament diary, register all world record status events with World Archery and process claims for National, European and World records. Karen can be contacted by email: karen.hodgkiss@archerygb.org or telephone 01952 602793.

For 2019 we will be reviewing the Longbow, Barebow and junior rankings, using the current Archery GB competition review as an opportunity to consult with interested parties.

There's still time to help us shape the future of our Competition Strategy

The competition review is still ongoing, and we would like to hear from as many people as possible - whether you compete or not. So please take the opportunity to feedback to us, or if you would like to become more involved with the review then please come along to one of the planned workshops, take the survey or email us via competitionreview@archerygb.org.
