Board Diversity Statement
A Commitment to Diversity
Diversity is about recognising, respecting and valuing different experiences, viewpoints, cultures, lifestyles and approaches based on membership of groups who share protected characteristics. These protected characteristics include race, ethnic background, religion, faith or belief, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, impairment, marital status, parental status, age, political beliefs, and first language. We consider that diversity in the board is extremely important and is likely to contribute significantly to greater success for the sport. Valuing diversity involves discussion and developing opportunities to use different life experiences, challenges, philosophies and approaches to solve problems in a positive way.
We should put forward a director to lead on equality, whose role it is to challenge staff and the board specifically around diversity and equality. However, it is the responsibility of all board members to consider diversity and equality when taking and leading action.
We currently have a skilled and wide-ranging board consistent with the Code for Sports Governance, which can be viewed on the following link: UK Sport Governance Code
>. We have made a commitment to:
- being fully representative of the diverse population from which our membership can be drawn;
- making sure more broadly that there is a wide representation of experience, skills and knowledge throughout the company workforce and board; and
- making sure that board recruitment and review processes directly value diversity and equality and take positive action to make all communities who share protected characteristics aware of opportunities.
