Over the last two years, the Big Weekend has successfully introduced thousands of people to the great sport of archery. This year it is back for more as clubs and organisations are invited to once again open their doors and welcome members of the public to have a go at archery at their fun and friendly open days.
Archery GB is delighted to be working with Foresters Friendly Society to bring the Big Weekend to life, without their support this year's event would not have been possible.
Budding bowmen and aspiring archers are invited to try out archery at their local club on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend of the 24-26 May - even if they have never picked up a bow and arrow before.
Not only will you be able to try out a new sport, it's an opportunity to get involved in your local community and meet new friends - at each event there will be plenty of current club members to lend a hand and chat about how they got started in archery. Archery is a fun and friendly sport for both young and old to take part in together, and with many clubs providing facilities for disabled archers too.
To find your nearest event, please see the map below. All equipment will be provided, so all you need to do is go along with plenty of enthusiasm. For further details about the event you wish to attend, please contact the organiser.

Norton Archers saw 187 people have a go, plus more than 50 very young children take part in archery for the first time using the Arrows kit. David McCullogh, the club's Chairman, said "it was fantastic to hear the number of people still talking about how they were inspired by the Olympics and how they really enjoyed the archery; even a year later you could still feel overwhelming enthusiasm for taking up the sport".
The event was just incredible. We had a constant stream of people all day from before 10am till after 4pm and suspect we engaged with some 400 new archers! There was so much interest in archery, it was amazing, and whilst we all went home exhausted we felt we had achieved something great.
Aire Valley Archers
The event proved to be a huge success with nearly 70% more people attending than the previous year. The feedback we received from the public who attended is a fantastic compliment to the effort and commitment shown by our club volunteers.
Gordano Valley Archers
Our event was awesome, well attended and brought lots of benefits to the club. Although it was hard work, it was a superb day and we will certainly be doing it again!
Deer Park Archers
We advertised the event extensively in local papers, at supermarkets and other outlets, and the local radio station was kind enough to give us some air time. We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of interest that was generated, we had only meant to run this for four hours but we had people queuing up to shoot so we ran on for one more hour to accommodate them. We are very pleased with the success of the event. All of our archers expressed their satisfaction with the day.
