The School Games - Archery from September 2012
We are also working with the Youth Sport Trust to get archery included in the School Games. The School Games is a celebration of competitive sport that will involve all young people in years 3 to 13, of all abilities and backgrounds. Archery GB is committed to providing more competitive opportunities for young people and our work with Youth Sport Trust will ensure resources will be developed for inclusion in September 2012. We believe that by supporting schools and their networks to deliver the School Games more young people will also be introduced to archery and enjoy further opportunities through clubs.
The School Games is made up of four levels of competition:
Level 1: Intra-school competition, culminating in a School Games day
Level 2: Regular inter-school competition between schools at a local level
Level 3: Annual county/area culmination of inter-school competitions - School Games Festivals
Level 4: National multi-sport event

Getting started in School
At present, the following information will help to get you started.
There are two main options for starting Archery in your school.
Option 1: Sessions delivered by a qualified Coach or Leader
Contacting your local club would be a good first step. Click the Club Finder feature to find a club near you. The club may be able to help you to identify a qualified coach or leader to deliver the sessions. Once a coach has been identified they will be able to advise you on what sessions they can deliver and the equipment and space required (many coaches will provide club equipment to use).
Option 2: Set up an Archery GB School Club
To set up an Archery GB School Club that is covered by Archery GB insurance, the club must be set up in accordance with the Grand National Archery Society Rules of Shooting which may be found on the Library section of the website. For the relevant paperwork and fees (currently £50 plus County and Regional fees) schools should contact the County Secretary. Call the Archery GB office for contact details of your County Secretary (details below).
Training
For teachers to be able to deliver Archery sessions in schools they must either be qualified in, or undertake a Leaders qualification or a Level One Archery qualification. There are currently no specific awards for teachers to deliver Archery, but this is currently being reviewed. There are currently no specific awards for young people to deliver Archery, but again this is currently being reviewed. Young people must be 17 years of age to undertake the Leaders qualification and 15 years of age to undertake the Level One qualification.
